Company - History
Renegy Holdings, Inc. was formed in 2007 through a merger of Catalytica Energy Systems, Inc. (formerly NASDAQ: CESI) and the renewable energy divisions of NZ Legacy, LLC. The merger transaction was completed on October 1, 2007. Our common stock began trading on the NASDAQ Capital Market on October 1, 2007 under the ticker symbol RNGY.
Renegy was formed to leverage the assets of two companies focused on clean and green energy solutions to become a leading independent power producer (IPP) of renewable energy in North America and a premiere provider of emissions compliance services for the coal-fired power generation industry.
In November 2007, Renegy sold its SCR catalyst and mangement services business (SCR-Tech) for $9.6 million. This sale marked Renegy's exit from the coal-fired power industry and a shift in focus exclusively on renewable energy.
On June 10, 2008, the Company achieved a significant milestone with the commencement of commercial operations of its flagship biomass power generating facility. The 24 MW plant, located near Snowflake, Arizona, is the first of a growing portfolio of renewable energy assets that Renegy plans to own and operate.
